The Vietnamese and Cambodian parliamentary officials talked environmental law, the protection of water resources and ecosystem, and sustainable development policies in Phnom Penh on July 6.

The talks were held for Dang Vu Minh, Director of the Vietnam National Assembly’s Committee for Science, Technology and Environment, and Ai Khan, Acting Chairman of the Commission on Planning, Investment, Agriculture, Rural Development, Environment and Water Resources of the Cambodian Parliament.

The Cambodian official said he was very keen on the Vietnamese committee’s experiences in making policies and handling issues related to the protection of water resources and forests and the application of scientific and technological advances in these activities.

Ai Khan laid special stress on rubber tree planting projects being carried out by Vietnamese companies in Cambodia , noting these projects’ sizable contributions to Cambodia ’s efforts to reduce poverty, restore its ecosystem and promote sustainable development.

Minh shared with the host the experiences his committee has gained, especially in examining bills and decrees and the implementation of laws and resolutions in the field of science, technology and the environment.

He noted that there are numerous opportunities for parliamentary committees of the two countries to cooperate and share experiences.

Later the same day, the Vietnamese officials attended a round-table talk with Environment Minister Mok Mareth and representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
