Vietnam, Chile to reach FTA in November

Earlier, the two countries completed the eighth round of negotiations, also the final one, on the FTA in Hanoi on June 18, according to the American Market Department (AMD) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

AMD Head Nguyen Duy Khien said the signing would contribute to spurring trading, expanding market and stepping up cooperation between the two sides in all areas.

MoIT’s recent report shows that two-way trade between Vietnam and Chile registered an average growth of 37 percent annually. Vietnam now ranks 42 nd among Chile ’s trade partners and 50 th among the country’s importers.

In 2010, Vietnam earned 104 million USD from export to the American country, of which some 51 million USD was garnered in the first six months of this year, the report said.

Vietnam mainly exports footwear, garments and textiles, frozen fish, plastic products, home decorations to Chile while importing production materials, refined copper, timber, iron, steel and pulp from the country.

Chile is listed as a market with growth potential in Vietnam ’s export strategy and an important materials supplier for the country./.
