Vietnam, China foster defence cooperation

number of measures to further the cooperation between their defence
and border guard forces in the coming time.
The results came up during a friendship talks between the two ministries’ delegations on March 11 in Mong Cai border gate, the northern province of Quang Ninh, as part of the 2014 Vietnam-China friendship border defence exchange programme.
The two sides agreed to continue carrying out contents of the cooperation agreement signed between the two defence ministries, while maintaining high-level meetings and exchanges between the two armies, finalising the four-level exchange mechanism between the two countries’ military zones and border posts and expanding joint patrols.
The two sides will also expand the model of twinning relations between localities of the two countries and set up a hotline to facilitate contacts and information sharing.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, who led the Vietnamese delegation, noted that defence cooperation between Vietnam and China has yielded many good results, becoming an important pillar in maintaining and strengthening the friendly relations between the two Parties, States and peoples.
He said leaders of the two defence ministries decided to organize the friendship border defence exchange programme with the aim of creating a new breakthrough in bilateral defence ties.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Qi Jianguo, a deputy chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, the head of the Chinese delegation, praised the idea of organising the Vietnam-China friendship exchange programme, describing it as a creative and constructive activity to consolidate mutual trust and friendship between the two armies.
The 2014 Vietnam-China friendship border defence exchange programme officially began on March 10 in China’s Guangxi province.

During their stay in China, the Vietnamese delegation also visited a number of Chinese military units.-VNA
