Saint Petersburg (VNA) –
The maintenance of friendship and sound cooperation between Vietnamese and Chinese parliaments will help develop the two countries’ comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in a sustainable manner.

Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan made the remark at a reception for Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China (NPC) Zhang Ping in Saint Petersburg city on October 15 on the sidelines of the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-137) in Russia.

She said the Vietnamese Party and State treasure ties with their Chinese counterparts, regarding this as a top priority in the foreign policy of Vietnam.

The top legislator called on the two sides to strengthen coordination to prepare for high-level delegation visits from now to the year’s end, including the State-level visit to Vietnam by General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, who is due to attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in the central city of Da Nang in November 2017.

She invited NPC leaders to participate in the 26th Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum in Hanoi from January 18-21, 2018.

The Chairwoman suggested the two countries’ ministries, departments and localities implement common perceptions reached by top leaders of the two countries, expand win-win collaboration in line with their development strategies, and bring bilateral cooperation to a new height in a more balanced and effective way.

She noted that the 14th National Assembly of Vietnam established the Vietnam-China friendship parliamentary group chaired by NA Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty. A delegation from the group will visit China in December to promote parliamentary ties, she added.

For his part, Zhang Ping said Vietnam and China should promote solidarity, friendship and move towards win-win cooperation and address disagreements.

He said China is willing to cooperate with Vietnam to deepen the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, adding that the two sides need to effectively implement collaborative programmes and projects while seeking cooperation opportunities within the China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative and building a corridor of economic connectivity.

Regarding legislative ties, the Chinese official said the two sides have maintained delegation exchanges, especially at high-levels. In 2016, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China Zhang Dejiang visited Vietnam. The two countries’ top legislators had successful talks, creating a foundation to elevate bilateral parliamentary relations.

China is ready to work with Vietnam to implement all cooperation agreements and increase experience sharing between the two countries’ parliaments, which will contribute to enhancing mutual understanding between their peoples and lay an important foundation for the building of a healthy relationship, he added.-VNA
