Vietnamese and Chinese experts, managers, cadres and people shared experiences in social policies and resolving their countries’ social issues at a talk on the Vietnam-China social policies in Hanoi on Dec. 12.

Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly’s Committee for Social Affairs Luong Phan Cu said Vietnam always considers developing economy in association with social policy development.

The Vietnamese Party and State have issued numerous laws including the Law on Labour, Social Insurance, Drug Prevention and Control and Gender Equality, built social programmes on safe water, crime prevention and control, job generation and preferential loans and others, launched nationwide movements, including Day for the Poor and Environment Day and mobilised people and socio-political organisations taking part in social activities, said Cu.

Assistant President of China National Committee on Ageing Xiao Caiwei said that China’s social policies, especially on elderly people have been widely carried out.

The rate of elderly people in the country’s population has increased from 10 percent in 1999 to 13 percent (167 million people) by the end of 2009, he said, adding that Chinese elderly people makes up one-fifth of the global elderly population.

China has carried out many social policies, including those on taking care of the elderly and family planning, which, he said, have helped reduce birth rate and increase people’s longevity.

Earlier, a seminar on Vietnam-China educational policies was held in Hanoi on Dec. 11.

The seminar drew the participation of Head of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries Chen Haosu, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Vu Xuan Hong and a large number of Hanoi university students.

The participants exchanged views on renovating education curricula, programmes to provide further training to and raising the living conditions of teachers and policies for disadvantaged areas.

Chinese experts shared experiences with their Vietnamese colleagues in controlling and mobilising sources for education.

The two events were jointly held within the framework of the Vietnam-China People Friendship Festival 2010 by the VUFO, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Vietnam-China Friendship Association and the China-Vietnam Friendship Association./.
