Legislative leaders from Vietnam and China vowed on March 23 to increase exchanges, cooperation and support to improve the law-making and supervisory capacity of each side.
The commitments came during a meeting in Hanoi the same day between Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and Vice Chairwoman of the Chinese National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee Yan Junqi.
During the function, Chairman Trong expressed his admiration for the grand achievements made so far by the Chinese people during the reform and market-opening process conducted under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party. He said China’s experience in the renovation and development process is a valuable lesson for Vietnam. He also expressed his belief that the NPC delegation’s visit would contribute to boosting relations between Vietnam and China.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chairwoman of the NPC Standing Committee said she was impressed to see with her own eyes Vietnam’s considerable achievements in development so far. She also confirmed that China remains fully committed to developing relations with Vietnam.
As the two are close neighbours, with many cultural similarities, and especially since now are both undertaking the same task of opening up their economies, China and Vietnam should share and learn from each other’s experience, she said.
The development of China-Vietnam relations not only benefits both countries but also contributes to the prosperity of the whole region, the Chairwoman added.
Later the same day, she and her entourage laid wreaths at the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and visited some historic and cultural relics in Hanoi./.
