The Vietnamese team won first prize at the “Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Researching Schools (IDEERS)” competition in Taiwan, a design contest for earthquake resistant models.

The competition drew the participation of 101 teams from 10 countries and territories in the Asian-Pacific region. The Vietnamese delegation consisted of students from the Duy Tan University in the central city of Da Nang.

The four students Ha Anh Tuan, Dang Quoc Dao, Luu Anh Tin and Ho Thu Thanh Thu outperformed the other participants and took home a gold medal in the undergraduate category.

The event was hosted by the Taiwan National Centre for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE), and the Asian-Pacific Network of Centres for Earthquake Engineering Research (ANCER).

The competition has been held in the UK since 2000 and is now run in Taiwan and Japan to educate students and the general public on the engineering principles of earthquake resistant structures.-VNA
