Vietnam always attaches importance to cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other international oganisations in all nuclear energy related issues for peaceful purposes, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan has said.

In his presentation at the 56 th annual session of the IAEA General Assembly which opened in Vienna , Austria on September 17, Quan further said that Vietnam supports and implements the IAEA’s action plan on nuclear safety.

He also informed the participants that Vietnam ’s President had approved the supplementary protocol and necessary documents to join the IAEA’s Convention on Physical Protection of Nuclear Material.

Regarding the country’s nuclear power issue, the minister said that Vietnam has been exerting every effort to implement its nuclear power projects in accordance with IAEA’s regulations on nuclear safety.

Currently, feasibility studies are being conducted for the country’s two nuclear power plants with cooperation from Russia and Japan , said Quan.

The same day, Minister Quan separately held bilateral talks with partners of Japan , France and Russia on nuclear cooperation./VNA
