Vietnam competes in national and Asian sport events

Vietnam won two golds and ranked third at the second Asian International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) Taekwondo Championships 2010 that wrapped up in HCM City on July 25.
Vietnam won two golds and ranked third at the second Asian International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) Taekwondo Championships 2010 that wrapped up in HCM City on July 25.

The two golds were carried off in demonstration by Nguyen Minh Duy in the men’s 52 kg category and Dang Thi Kim Phung in the women’s 50kg category.

New Zealand came first in the medal tally with 19 golds, nine silvers and three bronzes, followed by Japan with three golds, six silvers and six bronzes and Vietnam with two golds, three silvers and five bronzes.

The three-day championships drew 80 artists, including 19 women, from 11 countries and territories.

The Vietnamese taekwondo artists are expected to compete in the world ITF Taekwondo Championship slated for March 2011 in New Zealand .

Meanwhile, the International Women’s Volleyball Tournament, VTV Ferroli Cup, kicked off on July 25 in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak .

The seven-day tournament features six teams, including four foreign teams, competing in a round robin tourney.

The championships will receive 5,000 USD in cash while the runners-up and the third-place teams will get 3,000 USD and 2,000 USD, respectively.

Nine prizes for outstanding individuals will also be awarded by the organisers.

Also on July 25, the fourth National Festival for Sports and Arts for People with Disabilities wrapped up in the central coastal city of Da Nang .

HCM City ranked first in sports with 254 golds, followed by Hanoi with 124 golds and Quang Tri with 33 golds.

In cultural events, the host city came first and the runners-up are HCM City and the northern province of Bac Giang.

The organising board has presented prizes two outstanding athletes Vo Huynh Anh Khoa and Nguyen Thi Sa Ry and two wheelchairs to Nguyen Thanh Tung and Nguyen Thi Phi Yen of HCM City.

Three records were broken in Asian’s tracks-and-fields and swimming and 27 others in the Southeast Asia ’s tracks-and-fields, swimming and weight-lifting.

The festival drew 727 athletes and 126 artists from 27 provinces and cities./.
