Vietnam competes in national and Asian sport events

Vietnam won two golds and ranked third at the second Asian International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) Taekwondo Championships 2010 that wrapped up in HCM City on July 25.
Vietnam won two golds and ranked third at the second AsianInternational Taekwondo Federation (ITF) Taekwondo Championships 2010that wrapped up in HCM City on July 25.

Thetwo golds were carried off in demonstration by Nguyen Minh Duy in themen’s 52 kg category and Dang Thi Kim Phung in the women’s 50kgcategory.

New Zealand came first in the medaltally with 19 golds, nine silvers and three bronzes, followed by Japanwith three golds, six silvers and six bronzes and Vietnam with twogolds, three silvers and five bronzes.

The three-day championships drew 80 artists, including 19 women, from 11 countries and territories.

The Vietnamese taekwondo artists are expected to compete in the worldITF Taekwondo Championship slated for March 2011 in New Zealand .

Meanwhile, the International Women’s Volleyball Tournament, VTVFerroli Cup, kicked off on July 25 in the Central Highlands provinceof Dak Lak .

The seven-day tournament features six teams, including four foreign teams, competing in a round robin tourney.

The championships will receive 5,000 USD in cash while the runners-upand the third-place teams will get 3,000 USD and 2,000 USD,respectively.

Nine prizes for outstanding individuals will also be awarded by the organisers.

Also on July 25, the fourth National Festival for Sports and Arts forPeople with Disabilities wrapped up in the central coastal city of DaNang .

HCM City ranked first in sports with 254 golds, followed by Hanoi with 124 golds and Quang Tri with 33 golds.

In cultural events, the host city came first and the runners-up areHCM City and the northern province of Bac Giang.

The organising board has presented prizes two outstanding athletes VoHuynh Anh Khoa and Nguyen Thi Sa Ry and two wheelchairs to Nguyen ThanhTung and Nguyen Thi Phi Yen of HCM City.

Threerecords were broken in Asian’s tracks-and-fields and swimming and 27others in the Southeast Asia ’s tracks-and-fields, swimming andweight-lifting.

The festival drew 727 athletes and 126 artists from 27 provinces and cities./.

ASEAN city leaders explore Hanoi’s heritage sites

At the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, delegates visited the Doan Mon Gate and learnt about the formation and development of the ancient capital through different historical periods at display spaces. They also explored the Kinh Thien Palace’s Dragon Steps (large stone steps with dragon carvings), regarded as the political and ceremonial centre of the imperial citadel during successive Vietnamese dynasties.

The festival featured more than 20 booths offering traditional Vietnamese dishes, including "pho" and spring rolls, alongside activities promoting Ao Dai (Vietnamese traditonal long dress).
