Health officials on Feb. 10 confirmed one more death of A/H1N1 influenza, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 58.

The latest victim was a 37-year-old man from the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien , said representatives of the Preventive Medicine and Environment department of the Health Ministry.

He was admitted to the provincial General Hospital on Jan. 22 with signs of coughing, severe pneumonia and breathing difficulties. He tested positive for the potentially lethal A/H1N1 virus and died on Feb. 4.

By Feb. 10, the country detected a total of 11,186 A/H1N1 patients.

The Health Ministry warned of a highly potential spread of the deadly disease in the community as a large number of people will travel through the country during the upcoming Lunar New Year Festival (Tet), which will begin on Feb. 14.

The ministry recommended the people to actively prevent the epidemic by ensuring both personal and environmental hygiene./.
