A 40-year-old man in the central city of Da Nang was confirmed as the seventh fatality due to the A/H1N1 virus, the Health Ministry reported on Sept. 18.

According to the ministry, the man, who has suffered from collagenase disease, fell ill on Sept. 12. He purchased medicine for home treatment, however, it was ineffective. He was then hospitalised on Sept. 16.

Despite being treated with Tamiflu, he died on Sept. 17 due to serious pneumonia and acute heart failure. Subsequently, he tested positive for the super-flu virus.

His death is now added to three others in Ho Chi Minh City and two in the southern provinces of Dong Nai and Ben Tre and one in the central province Khanh Hoa.

By 5pm of Sept. 18, Vietnam has confirmed 6,179 cases of A/H1N1 flu with an additional 218 patients reported the same day.

According to incomplete statistics, the disease has spread to 50 provinces and cities.

To prevent a wide-spread outbreak of the disease, the Ministry of Health has asked health clinics to put suspected and confirmed cases of the flu under close watch. They should also be quarantined and given prompt treatment./.
