Vietnam will do its utmost to boost cooperation with Cuba in all fields, particularly in agriculture, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has told Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz at a reception in Hanoi on September 18.

The PM also expressed his hope that Cuba will create favourable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to make long-term investment in the country.

He said the visit of the Cuban minister to attend the meeting of the inter-governmental committee of the two countries, will make active contributions to enhancing multi-faceted cooperation between the two nations.

PM Dung said Vietnam is commemorating the 40 th anniversary of Cuban President Fidel Castro’s historical visit to Vietnam during the fiercest period of the war, and meetings will be held in the central province of Quang Tri on September 19-20 to mark such an important event.

The visit of Fidel, who was the first foreign Head of State to come to the liberated zone during the war in Vietnam , was a great source of encouragement to the Vietnamese people and armed forces during their fight for national liberation and re-unification, said the PM.

The Cuban Minister said his country hopes to learn from Vietnam ’s experiences in socio-economic development.

He affirmed that Cuba will create favourable conditions for businesses of both countries to expand their trade ties and investment cooperation.

He also handed to PM Dung a letter from Fidel Castro which recalls his deep impression and unforgettable memories during the visit to Vietnam 40 years ago.-VNA
