The southern region’s working group of the Vietnam Customs’ Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department seized 94 rifles during a routine inspection of a vessel anchored at Sao Mai-Ben Dinh wharf in the southern province of Vung Tau .

The guns, with four different models of SharpInnova and SharpTiger, were found on the boat on October 21, along with a gunstock of the same brand.

The crew members failed to provide evidence of the legality of their cargo.

According to the crew, the guns belong to Pham Xi, 26, in Vung Tau city, and Dinh Duc Phuc, 28, in Binh Phuoc province, who allegedly bought the weapons abroad to sell them in Vietnam .

The 2,500t vessel is owned by the Gia Long Trade and Maritime Transport Ltd Co. in Ho Chi Minh City . At the time of inspection, the ship was transporting oil and gas equipment from Singapore to PTSC Port in Vung Tau city.-VNA
