National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung delivered an important address at a plenary meeting of Myanmar’s Union Parliament in Nay Pyi Taw on July 25, affirming Vietnam’s resolve to foster the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries and parliamentary bodies.

The NA Chairman reiterated the country’s consistent foreign policy that prioritises strengthening Vietnam-Myanmar bilateral ties for the development of each country as well as regional and global peace, stability and prosperity.

Speaking highly of Myanmar ’s achievements in boosting national harmony, developing its economy, improving people’s wellbeing and expanding external relations, the Vietnamese guest expressed his belief that Myanmar will reap further achievements in its national construction and development, as well as raise the country’s role and position in Asia and the world.

Chairman Hung emphasised the two countries’ similarities in history and culture, and asked both sides to bring their cooperation potential into full play.

He affirmed that the Vietnamese NA will work closely with Myanmar’s parliament to effectively carry out the recently signed cooperation agreement, and monitor the implementation of other agreements and pledges between the two countries.

In terms of existing threats to peace and security in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region, including the East Sea issue, and emerging non-traditional security issues such as climate change, disease and water resources, the chairman stressed that continuing to bolster the Vietnam-Myanmar traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation is not only an objective demand but also an aspiration of the two peoples and the responsibility of the two countries’ leaders.

It ensures the success of each country’s cause of innovation and development while contributing to maintaining and consolidating regional and global peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity, he added.

Later the same day, the Vietnamese leader and his entourage left for Yangon, Myanmar’s biggest city, visiting Vietnamese Embassy staff and the Vietnamese community here.

He is scheduled to have a meeting with the Governor of Yangon on the evening.-VNA
