Vietnam came from behind to draw with the Republic of Korea (RoK) in the ASEAN Under-19 Football Championships at Thong Nhat Stadium on July 26.

Substitute Nguyen Van Thanh scored the equaliser in injury time after the RoK’s Lee Ki-je opened the scoring with a wonderful 25m free kick.

The 1-1 draw kept the host within range of the final because Thailand also drew 1-1 with Australia , who currently rank in the top position with four points.

On July 24, the Aussies edged the RoK 1-0.

Vietnam , who drew with Thailand 1-1 on Saturday, equal Thailand with two points after two matches.

"We kept a reasonable distance from the Ro K’s and caused them a lot of difficulty in the first half. We raised the game in the second half and if we had been lucky, we could have won the match," Vietnamese U-19 coach Trieu Quang Ha said in the post-match conference.

"Today we played well, especially in the wings."

The RoK currently ranks at the bottom.

The hosts will meet Australia tomorrow, while Thailand will take on the RoK.

The tournament sees four teams competing in a round robin competition. The top two teams will play in the final on July 30./.
