Vietnam always wishes to promote friendly and cooperative relations with El Salvador as well as with Latin American countries, affirmed President Truong Tan Sang during his meeting with El Salvador’s Chairman of Legislative Assembly Sigfrido Reyes in Hanoi on June 6.

The President spoke highly of the results of dialogues and meetings between the El Salvador’s guest and leaders of Vietnam’s Communist Party, National Assembly and local authorities.

He said the two countries can support each other with the strength and potential of each side, particularly in science-technology, telecommunications and agriculture.

President Sang proposed the two countries deepen their political relations, increasing mutual understanding, looking for ways to diversify and enhance the efficiency of cooperation.

He expressed his hope that El Salvador will create favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to invest and cooperate in agriculture and telecommunications.

The two sides also need to work closely and support each other in international and multilateral forums such as the United Nations (UN) and World Trade Organisation (WTO), President Sang added.

In response, El Salvador’s Chairman of Legislative Assembly said that his visit aims to learn from the development experiences of Vietnam, a fast-growing economy in the region. El Salvador also experienced years of war, witnessing firsthand the difficulties in developing an economy with infrastructure destroyed from war, he added.

Sigfrido Reyes affirmed that El Salvador will create favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses in textiles, electronics and telecommunications to invest in his country, and believed that his country’s companies will have opportunities to access the Vietnamese market and its 90-million population.

He also hopes Vietnam will continue its role in international forums and affirmed that El Salvador backs Vietnam’s participation in the UN’s agencies.

El Salvador’s high-ranking delegation led by the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly is in Vietnam from June 6-11 at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.-VNA
