Vietnam, EU hold second political consultation

This is the second deputy-ministerial political consultation under the Vietnam-EU agreement.

At the discussion, the two sides briefed each other on each side’s socio-economic development, as well as reviewed the Vietnam-EU cooperation over the past time and sought ways to promote cooperation in the fields of politics, security, national defence, economics, trade, investment and migration.

They also worked on a list of priority items in the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) for early implementation this year.

The officials exchanged views on some regional and international issues of common concern including climate change, ASE AN-EU and Mekong sub-regional cooperation, the East Sea , peace keeping, and human rights.

The two sides affirmed their intent to continue coordinating closely and supporting each other in regional and international forums.

Son and O’Sullivan agreed to further enhance the consultation mechanism, contributing to boosting the Vietnam-EU cooperation.

On the sidelines of the consultation, Deputy Minister Son held a working session with Pedro Serrano, Principal Advisor on External Affairs of the European Council President.

In another meeting, Son and Secretary General of the Belgian Foreign Ministry Dirk Achten reviewed the implementation of agreements reached by the two sides’ leaders and agreed to coordinate activities to mark the 40 th anniversary of Vietnam-Belgium diplomatic ties.-VNA
