HCM City (VNA) Vietnam shipped to the US 16 billion USD worth of commodities in the past five months of this year, up 10 percent year on year while its imports from the partner reached 3.94 billion USD, up 26.3 percent.

The figures, released by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, combined a two-way trade value of 19.96 billion USD during the period, rising by 12.8 percent.

Vietnam purchased 1.14 billion USD worth of computers, electronics and components from the US in the reviewed period, up 41.6 percent. These products accounted for the largest proportion of the country’s imports, or 29 percent.

It imported 92.1 million USD worth of iron and steel scraps from the US during the time, only accounting for 2.3 percent of the total imports but representing a staggering 15-fold increase against the same period last year, the ministry said.

The country also saw a jump of over 100 percent in imports of telephones and components, petroleum products, papers, and ores and minerals.-VNA
