Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam wishes to receive Denmark’s help in improving food safety and hygiene in animal husbandry, said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat at his talks with Danish Minister of Environment and Food Eva Kjer Hansen in Hanoi on November 9.

Phat affirmed that Vietnam wants to import good breeds of pig from Denmark and learn from the country’s advanced technology relating to animal husbandry.

He suggested Denmark create conditions for Vietnamese officials to visit to the country to study its management experience as well as technologies and policies to develop sea aquaculture.

Minister Eva Kjer Hansen, in turn, asked for Vietnam’s consideration of allowing Denmark to export beef to the country.

According to her, there are more than 130 Danish investors in Vietnam, most of which want to expand their scale.

She also showed her interest in the Vietnamese market’s potential as well as he hope for the early signing of the Vietnam-EU free trade agreement.

Denmark has to date provided assistance for several important programmes involved in agriculture and rural development in Vietnam, including the programme to develop agriculture and rural areas during 2007-2012, the other one to support aquaculture in the 2005-2012 period, and the 2011-2015 water supply and rural sanitation programme.

At the meeting, the two ministers witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Rural Technology Development JSC and the Danish Farm Concept.

Trade between Vietnam and Denmark is expected to reach 500 million USD in 2015, a record rise of 57 percent against last year.-VNA
