Vietnam’s Lac Hong University team came third at the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest 2011 (ABU Robocon 2011), which closed in Bangkok , Thailand on August 28.
In addition to sharing the bronze medal with their peers from Indonesia ’s Batam Polytechnic University , the Vietnamese students also bagged the Toyota Award.
The Thailand 1 team from the Dhurakij Pundit University and the Thailand 2 from the Kampaengphet Technical College won the Grand Prix and first runner-up.
The two-day contest, themed “Loy Krathong, Lighting Happiness with Friendship”, drew the participation of 19 teams from universities and colleges of 18 Asia-Pacific regional countries.
Initiated by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) in 2002, the biennial contest aims to develop creativeness, inventiveness and new study methods for young people in the Asia-Pacific region and offer them opportunities to strengthen exchanges for mutual understanding.
Vietnam’s teams have so far won gold medals in 2002, 2004 and 2006 and a silver medal in 2010 at this contest, which is held in rotation in its member countries./.
