Senior Lieutenant General Truong Quang Khanh, Deputy Minister of Defence, and Jan Vapaavuori, Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs, agreed to share their experiences in peacekeeping operations in a meeting in Hanoi on October 20.

Speaking at the reception, Senior Lieut.Gen. Khanh stressed the effective and continuously developing bilateral relations between the two countries since they established diplomatic relations in 1973, adding that Vietnam is always grateful for Finland’s support to Vietnam during the process of national defence.

Senior Lieut.Gen. Khanh expressed his hope that Finland will back Vietnam in training its peacekeeping force, since Finland has extensive experience in this field.

He said he wishes the two countries intensify their cooperation in the fields of military industry and other sectors of Vietnam’s concern.

On his side, Jan Vapaavuori said Finland is willing to share experience in their strength, including the environment, industrial progress, water monitoring, and weapons maintenance, adding that Finland ran a globally-recognised training centre which offers courses every year on the settlement of military and political crises for foreign specialists.

At the meeting, Jan Vappavuori also suggested that Vietnam and Finland should foster cooperation on marine issues.-VNA
