Vietnam-France ties thrive: ambassador

The year 2018 holds special significance for Vietnam – France relations, Vietnamese Ambassador to France Nguyen Thiep said during a ceremony in Paris on September 19 marking the 73rd anniversary of National Day of Vietnam (September 2).

Paris (VNA) – The year 2018holds special significance for Vietnam – France relations, VietnameseAmbassador to France Nguyen Thiep said during a ceremony in Paris on September19 marking the 73rd anniversary of National Day of Vietnam(September 2).

He said 73 years since President Ho Chi Minhdelivered the Independence Declaration on September 2, 1945, Vietnam has becomean active member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with a91 million population and an average income per capita of more than 2,000 USDeach year.

Vietnam has established diplomatic ties withmost UN member states and maintained economic and trade ties with nearly 230countries and territories. This year, Vietnam and France mark the 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties and the fifth anniversary of theirstrategic partnership, playing a key role in promoting relations between ASEANand the EU.

Highlighting the importance of France visitby Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong last March, Thiep said it hadcreated a strong driving force for the development of bilateral ties acrosspolitics, economy, culture, education, healthcare and national defence.

Vietnamese officials also paid working tripsto France, including those by Minister-Chairman of the Government Office MaiTien Dung in April, Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien and Chairman of the municipalPeople’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung in June and Defence Minister Ngo Xuan Lichin September with the signing of a Joint Vision Declaration on defencecooperation for 2018-2028.

Secretary of State to the Minister forEurope and Foreign Affairs of France Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne arrived in Hanoi inJanuary to chair a Vietnam – France economic dialogue. The first Vietnam –France dialogue on security and defence strategy recently held in Paris alsoopened up opportunities for collaboration.

Major Vietnamese firms such as Viettel, FPTand Vietnam Airlines are also present in France.

On the occasion, the ambassador notedVietnam will join the Paris Motor Show in October for the first time,presenting VinFast automobiles manufactured by Vietnam’s Vingroup.

Cultural and art activities are planned tocelebrate the 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic tiesthroughout the year.-VNA

Voter turnout exceeds 80% nationwide by mid-afternoon

Many localities have recorded high voter turnout, particularly several northern mountainous provinces such as Lao Cai, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, and Tuyen Quang. Other localities, including Ha Tinh, Da Nang, Lang Son, Nghe An, and Thai Nguyen, have also reported a rate of more than 90%.
