Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam has accomplished all necessary preparations for level-2 field hospital in South Sudan, Colonel Nguyen Nhu Canh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, said at a press conference held in Hanoi on March 29.

The Ministry of National Defence is working closely with relevant organisations, United Nations (UN) agencies and the British Ministry of Defence, to complete negotiations for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Vietnam’s deployment of the level-2 field hospital in South Sudan between Vietnam and the UN, he said.

The ministry has finalised the packaging and list of products sent to South Sudan, Canh said, adding that the list will be given to the UN and the South Sudan Government for tax exemption procedures and customs clearance.

Vietnam’s first level-2 field hospital, which is joining the UN’s peacekeeping activities, was established on November 25, 2014 under the decision of the Ministry of National Defence.

In its first phase of preparation, 30 military officers and some 30 tonnes of cargo will be sent to the African nation with the support of the Australian Department of Defence and the UN.

The remainders will be transported to South Sudan by Australia’s Boeing C-17 military airlift aircraft in the second phase.

The Vietnam Peacekeeping Department has kept in touch with the UK’s level-2 field hospital to facilitate the replacement of the British hospital with Vietnam’s hospital.-VNA
