Vietnamese martial artists shined on December 21 during the SEA Games 27 in Myanmar with seven golds, bringing the national team’s total to 73 against the previously set goal of 70.
In Kempo, Hong Ngoc outplayed her opponent in the women’s 48kg category, earning the first gold medal in this sport for the Vietnamese team.
Duo Le Duong Lan Phuong and Tran Thi My Duyen clinched another gold in the performance event.
In Taekwondo, Nguyen Trong Cuong knocked out his Cambodian rival of the men’s 87kg category. This was the fifth gold medal to the taekwondo team, fulfilling its target at the SEA Games.
Vovinam artists Ho Minh Tam and Nguyen Thi Kim Hoang won golds in the men’s 65kg and the women’s U55kg categories, respectively.
In Muay, Bui Yen Ly triumphed in the women’s 51kg event, while her teammate Nguyen Thi Ngoc bagged another gold in the women’s 60kg event.
By December 21, with 73 golds, Vietnam ranked third in the medal tally. Thailand secured its first place with 103 golds, followed by the host Myanmar with 82 gold medals. Indonesia was in fourth place with 64 golds.
The biggest regional sport event will close on December 22 night. During the final competition day, Vietnamese athletes are competing in Sepak Takraw.-VNA
