The Vietnam Gender Medicine Association was set up at its first congress in Hanoi on April 3.

The association’s foundation was aimed at gathering scientists in the field to share experiences in promotion of gender and reproductive health and boosting personnel training.

The association adopted an action plan for the 2010-2015 period, focusing on building centres and departments of gender medicine at hospitals and medical schools to further develop the new science.

Gender medicine is a new science focusing on the differences between men and women in both health and disease, which integrates aspects of medicine, biology, sociology, ethnicity and culture. It is a discipline emerging as one of the most challenging areas of medical research and health care in the new millennium./.
