Vietnam applauds the theme of the second Asian Women Entrepreneurs’ Conference (AWEC) which highlights women’s role in contributing to sustainable development in Asia and the world as a whole.

So said Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan at the conference which opened in Seoul in the Republic of Korea on Sept.17.

Doan is leading a delegation of 30 Vietnamese businesswomen to the event, which has attracted 500 female policy makers and CEOs from 30 countries worldwide.

The conference which has the theme “Asian Women for Green Growth” is a forum for businesswomen to discuss women’s roles in dealing with social and environmental issues and present their opinions and suggestions to governments on how to develop sustainable agriculture and alternative energy sources while eradicating industrial pollution.

Vice President Doan said that climate change has become one of the biggest challenges in the 21 st century as it causes great loss of life and property, and directly affects people’s lives, particularly the old, women and children.

She expressed her hope that Asian women would contribute to researching and developing new technologies and alternative energy in order to minimise the greenhouse effect, while promoting the use of more environment-friendly technologies to keep the planet green and clean.

Doan said that the initiatives proposed at the conference would be a basis for Vietnamese business women to contribute more to sustainable development in Vietnam , as well as other countries in the region and the world.

On the sidelines of the AWEC, Vice President Doan and the Vietnamese businesswomen visited the RoK’s SK group, which operates a number of investment projects in Vietnam./.
