Vietnam harvested 20 gold medals on Dec. 17, the ninth day of the 25th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Vientiane, Laos, bringing its gold possession so far to 81.

It continues maintaining its second place in the medal tally following Thailand with 84 golds.

Pencak Silat martial artists performed well with six golds for categories ranging from 45-65kg for women and 55 and 75kg for men.

Five Wushu martial artists won five gold medals for both men and women’s Sanshou events.

In free wrestling, Vietnamese wrestlers carried off four gold medals for men’s 50, 55, 60 and 120 kg events.

Meanwhile, sprinters Nguyen Dinh Cuong and Truong Thanh Hang took golds for the men and women’s 1,500m run, respectively.

Bui Thi Hoa and Nguyen Thi Nhu Y snapped two gold medals at the women’s under 63kg and 78kg combat events for Judo.

The last gold medal of the day went to Nguyen Thi Quynh at the women’s diving with a snorkel and fins event.

The same day, the Vietnamese football squad missed the SEA Games trophy after losing 1-0 to the Malaysia team at the final match./.
