Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Van Duoc attended the inauguration ceremony of the Cambodian Guard Forces’ Headquarters on January 19, which was built with assistance from Vietnam.

Also present at the ceremony were Cambodian Minister of Defence Tea Banh and the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Guard Force, General Hin Bun Hieng.

Defence Minister Tea Banh expressed deepest thanks to the Vietnamese army and people for this practical project.

“Vietnam and Cambodia have enjoyed a special friendship which has stood the test of time, especially during the 70s and early 80s of the previous century. At this point, Vietnam had sacrificed numerous lives to save the Cambodian nation from the Pol Pot genocidal regime,” Tea Banh said.

“Only with assistance from the Vietnam People’s Army could Cambodia win the January 7 Victory (in 1979) and it became the rebirth of the Cambodian nation,” he concluded.

In reply, Deputy Minister Duoc pledged that “the Vietnamese people and army would do their utmost to cultivate bilateral relations for further blossoming and more fruitful results.”

The headquarters of the Cambodian Guard Forces covers 10 hectares of land in capital Phnom Penh./.
