Vietnam ’s project to raise salmon andsturgeon in Champassak province has been successful and become thefirst salmon- and sturgeon-breeding model in Laos .
Since Vietnam provided breeding salmon and sturgeon for Laos inSeptember 2009, the two types of fish have done well and adapted toliving conditions in the country, with salmon growing to weights from0.9-1 kg each and sturgeon 1-1.3 kg each.
Khampheng Heuangsisavath, an official of the project, said the projectis very important for Laos as the country want to meet its domesticdemand for the two types of fish, helping reduce imports fromneighbouring countries.
In the coming time, the Lao Government will expand this model to otherlocalities nationwide, she said, adding that this month, the Vietnamesegovernment will provide more breeding salmon and sturgeon for theproject./.
