For the first time ever Vietnam will honour the FDI enterprises and entrepreneurs that have recorded the most outstanding production and business performances so far, at a ceremony in Hanoi on September 20.

Under the spotlight will be 85 FDI businesses and 15 entrepreneurs currently operating in Vietnam and two Vietnamese businesses which have been investing in Laos, said Mai Thanh Hai, President of the Vietnamese Association of Foreign Investment Enterprises (VAFIE), who will host the event, at a press conference on Sept. 16.

During the ceremony, Vietnam’s Golden FDI Prize will be presented to the country’s best enterprises and entrepreneurs, as an indication of the nation’s recognition of the contributions FDI enterprises have made to accelerating national development and global integration, said Hai.

The VAFIE will hold a conference with the theme “for a friendly and developed Vietnam ” alongside the event, to mark the country’s three-year membership of the World Trade Organisation.

After bringing in the Law on Foreign Investment 20 years ago, the FDI sector has become an important driving force for Vietnam’s economy.

At present, more than 10,000 FDI enterprises, which have a combined investment capital of 174 billion USD, are operating in Vietnam. They have generated direct jobs for nearly 2 million people and created indirect work for millions of others./.
