The Regional Steering Committee of the Mangroves for the Future (MFF) initiative convened its tenth meeting in Hoi An city, the central province of Quang Nam, on September 11.

The MFF groups Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Pakistan, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

During the four-day event, the participants will discuss problems facing efforts to preserve mangrove forests, while drafting solutions and investment plans in regional coastal ecosystems.

The MFF is a partnership-based initiative promoting investments in coastal ecosystems that support sustainable development.

It provides a platform for member countries, sectors and agencies to collaborate in tackling the challenges to coastal ecosystem conservation and livelihood sustainability.

Vietnam joined the initiative in 2010 and has so far participated in 15 MFF projects, contributing to protecting its rich resources in coastal regions and the lives of people residing in and around mangroves.

Since 2010, the MFF initiative has invested 1 million USD in ecological recovery and livelihood improvement in Vietnam’s coastal areas.-VNA
