Vietnam, Indonesia step up naval cooperation

Hanoi (VNA) -  Rear Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem, Commander ofthe Vietnam People’s Navy, on June 8, had phone talks with IndonesianNavy Chief of Staff Admiral Yudo Margono.

During their discussion, Nghiem highlighted the two nations’ increasinglyfortified naval cooperation, saying their bilateral naval consultationmechanism, which is alternately hosted by the two sides, has been highlyeffective.

He appreciated the participation and practicalopinions of the Indonesian Navy delegation delivered at a virtual conference of the WorkingGroup of the ASEAN Navy Training Experience Exchange Programme (ANTEEP), whichwas held by the Vietnam People’s Navy in April this year.

For his part, Yudo Margono stated the Indonesian Navy is committedto working closely with Vietnam to build and maintain a peaceful and stableborder sea area between the two countries, as well as to create favourableconditions for their fishermen to operate without violating their respective waters.

Both officials agreed to promote necessary steps on a jointtraining standard procedure in order to standardise the process and improvecoordination between the two navies for addressing common maritime securitychallenges./.
