Vietnam and Israel should hold more discussions for the early signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on bilateral defence cooperation and a supplementary MoU on defence industry cooperation framework.

Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Minister of National Defence, made the suggestion at a meeting with Israeli Defence Counsellor in Thailand and Vietnam Dan Camen in Hanoi on August 12.

He said that since the two countries set up diplomatic ties in 1993, bilateral cooperation, especially in defence, has developed in a continuous and effective manner.

The two countries should set up a joint working team on defence cooperation to further boost their ties in the field, he said, expressing his hope that Israel will have a defence attaché in Vietnam in the time to come.

For his part, Dan Camen stated that Israel always attaches importance to cooperation with Vietnam , especially in defence, on the basis of mutual respect, understanding and trust.

He promised that during his term, he will do his utmost to foster defence cooperation between the two nations.-VNA
