Vietnam ranks 81 st among 152 countries in the International Telecommunication Union’s ICT Development Index (IDI), moving up 10 places from its 91 st position in 2008, the Ministry of Information and Communication said on Sept. 26.
According to the ITU’s report Measuring the Information Society 2011, Vietnam ’s IDI value increases from 2.76 in 2008 to 3.53 in 2010.
The result is spurred by the growth in the use sub-index, reflecting the fact that broadband internet subscribers in the country rose from zero in 2008 to 13 per 100 residents in 2010.
In addition, Vietnam jumped 16 places up in the ranking of the access sub-index compared to 2008.
The country was at the third place among ten countries having the highest IDI growth rate during the 2008-2010 period after Armenia and Morocco. /.
