A delegation of the Lao province of Siengkhouang made a working visit to the southern province of Vinh Long to study opportunities to develop ties with the Vietnamese locality.

The Lao delegation, led by Somkot Mangnomek, secretary of the provincial Party Committee and governor of the province, was received by Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, secretary of Vinh Long Party Committee on Nov. 26.

The Lao officials were interested in Vinh Long’s strength in agriculture and eco-tourism in combination with craft villages, historic sites and aquaculture zones.

The two sides exchanged views on investment modes, measures to attract investment, and State management in tourist development.

Siengkhouang province shares a border line with Vietnam’s central province of Nghe An. The province is targeting to developing cattle breeding, tourist and agricultural product processing industries.

So far 16 Vietnamese businesses have been licensed to invest in Siengkhouang.

Somkot Mangnomek said his province has been twinned with Vietnam’s central province of Nghe An and northern province of Son La, and now wishes to strike up a rapport with the Mekong delta province of Vinh Long, which has its forte in agriculture.

He expressed wish that Vinh Long would help Siengkhouang in training personnel for education, agriculture and tourism fields.
