Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia boost ties in fine arts

Leaders of the Fine Arts Associations of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia held a friendship meeting in Hanoi on December 12, to share initiatives in strengthening their ties.

They concurred witha proposal made by the Vietnamese association’s chairman Tran KhanhChuong on organising exhibitions to introduce art works of all threecountries to the public, while promoting exchange and bilateral meetingsamong the countries.

The Chairmen of the f ine artsassociations of Laos and Cambodia expressed their gratitudeto their Vietnamese counterpart for its support in the last years,saying that they hope the cooperation between the three sides willincreasingly develop in the future.

Since 2004, 11delegations of Lao and Cambodian painters visited and worked in Vietnamwhile nine artist delegations from Vietnam attended events in the twoneighbouring countries.

This is the second timeleaders of the three associations has met to exchange views on theircommon concerns in the art field. The third event of its kind will beheld Phnom Penh , Cambodia in 2015.-VNA

In his speech, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Cuong said the municipal Party organisation, authorities and people always value the close ties and solidarity among Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. People’s Artist Nguyen Hoang Tuan, Chairman of the Hanoi Theatre Association, noted that while northern Vietnam had 27 puppetry guilds in 1986, only 14 remain today. Many traditional plays and original scripts have been lost, hurting restoration and preservation efforts.
