Hanoi (VNA) Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception for Lao Minister of Energy and Mine Khammany Inthirath in Hanoi on April 4 before he left for the third Mekong River Commission (MRC) Summit in Cambodia.

The Vietnamese Government leader lauded the Lao official’s visit, which is taking place right after the 40th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee to realise the outcomes of the meeting in the area of energy.

He extended his greetings to the Lao delegation on the occasion of the Bunpimay, the traditional New Year of Laos.

The PM thanked the Lao Government for supporting Vietnamese investors in implementing hydropower and mining projects in Laos.

For his part, Khammany Inthirath briefed the host on the results of his working session with the Electricity of Vietnam and the National Oil and Gas Group on measures to carry out agreements between the two governments on developing hydropower projects in Laos as well as power transmission lines and power purchasing deals between the two countries.

He said that the two sides have reached agreements on methods of transmitting and selling electricity from Laos to Vietnam. He also said he will work with representatives of Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade on the details of each projects and power prices on April 4 afternoon.

In the field of mining and minerals, the Lao side will coordinate with a number of Vietnamese investors to implement some projects in Laos, said the minister, affirming that Laos is ready to create optimal conditions for the work.

PM Phuc underscored that cooperation between the Vietnamese and Lao economies is essential to promote strengths of both sides.

He proposed that the Lao side give more favourable conditions for Vietnamese investors to implement their projects with high efficiency and environmental protection ensured. - VNA
