Vietnam and Laos have agreed to enhance their cooperation in science and technology in the future.

The agreement was reached during talks in Vientiane on December 20 between head of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology Chau Van Minh and Lao Minister of Science and Technology Boviengkham Vongdala, who is also the President of the Lao National Academy of Social Science.

The two sides looked at science and technology cooperation between their countries in the last couple of years and discussed orientations for working together in the time to come.

They agreed to jointly undertake scientific research studies in urgent fields to support the planning of socio-economic development policies and ensuring security and defence in each country.

They were unanimous in soon completing a draft of a project to strengthen the Lao academy’s capacity in conducting scientific research for the 2014 – 2016 period and building key scientific programmes within a comprehensive cooperation agreement between Vietnam and Laos .

To enhance the cooperation between the two academies and consolidate both countries’ special relations, the Vietnamese side has been working with Laos’ related agencies in scientific projects and training human resources.-VNa
