Party officials from the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) on Sept. 8 gathered in the border town of Lao Bao in Huong Hoa district, in the central province of Quang Tri to talk about historical events in the special relations between the two countries.

Also taking part in the seminar were scientists, historical witnesses, as well as representatives of Vietnam ’s Military Zone 4 and many ministries and localities.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Party and State, Truong Tan Sang, politburo member and standing member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat delivered a keynote speech, stressing the importance of maintaining and developing the glorious traditions in the two countries’ relations, which were fostered by President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane and Prince Souphanouvong, as well as the two peoples.

He expressed his wish that the two countries would enhance political ties at all levels and boost exchanges of experience in national renewal to build their common border into one of peace, friendship, cooperation and comprehensive and sustainable development, especially in terms of building the border along the east-west Truong Son mountain range into a prosperous economic corridor for the two countries.

Speaking for Laos , Phanhdouangchit Vongsa, Chairman of the LPRP Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Training stated that central Vietnam and central Laos share similar traditions and potential. In the past war and during the current period of national construction, the two sides gave each other assistance in the spirit of their special friendship. He expressed the wish that Vietnam would create more conditions to facilitate development in central Laos .

On Sept. 9, historical witnesses and representatives of Vietnamese officials and experts, who used to work in Laos , will meet at the seminar.

A similar seminar will be held in Savannakhet province in Laos , from Sept. 11-13./.
