A delegation from the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) led by Minister Pham Thi Hai Chuyen began a three-day visit to Laos on October 17 to boost labour and social welfare cooperation with the Lao side.

On the day, the Vietnamese delegation had a working session with Lao Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Onchanh Thammavong. The two sides expressed pleasure at their cooperation over the past time, with the exchange of visits and the sharing of experience at regional and international forums, especially ASEAN meetings.

The cooperation between the two ministries has developed not only at the central level but also local level, focusing on short-term vocational training for Lao workers in bordering provinces.

Vietnamese localities such as Nghe An, Dien Bien, Kon Tum and Ha Tinh have provided vocational training for dozens of Lao students each year.

In the coming time, the two sides will continue accelerating negotiations for the signing of a new agreement on labour cooperation and coordinate in preparing for the 3 rd Labour and Social Affairs Ministers’ Meeting.

They agreed to speed up the building of the Udomsay Vocational Training Centre, which is expected to train 500 students per year, and a functional rehabilitation centre for war invalids and disabled people in Vientiane./. VNA
