Upon his arrival in Hanoi on Sept. 15, Lao Prime Minister Buasone Bouphavan held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyen Tan Dung, where the two leaders vowed to meet trade and border delineation targets.
The two PMs showed determination to take joint measures to bring two-way trade revenues to 2 billion USD by 2015 and finish border demarcation by 2014.
They shared a view to strengthen cooperation to ensure security, public order and encourage development projects in border areas.
Also high on the talks agenda were the Vietnam-Laos cooperation strategy for the 2011-2020 period and the agreement of cooperation for the next five years, which the two leaders pledged to finalise soon.
They also showed determination to make further efforts to solve outstanding problems to boost comprehensive cooperation, ranging from trade to investment, culture, education, tourism, transportation, healthcare, agriculture, hydro-power, post and telecommunications, industrial crops planting and mining.
The traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos are faring well, the leaders said with satisfaction.
Buasone Bouphavan assured his host of the Lao policy to provide the best possible conditions for Vietnamese investors interested in the Lao market.
He said Laos has placed a high priority on cooperation with Vietnam in personnel training and human resources development.
With regard to international issues, the Lao Prime Minister highly valued the role played by Vietnam in the capacity of ASEAN Chair, making positive contributions to the progress towards a community of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
He expressed support for Vietnam in fulfilling the ASEAN chair as well as Vietnam ’s initiatives in strengthening solidarity and successfully building the ASEAN community.
The two Prime Ministers agreed to support each other in regional and international forums.
Coming out from the talks, PM Dung and his Lao counterpart, PM Buasone Boaphavan, witnessed the signing of an agreement on air transportation, a protocol on generating favourable conditions for land road motor vehicles across the border and a memorandum of understanding on air transportation exploitation.
These accords will provide major legal foundations for the two countries to develop trade and traffic flows.
Later in the day, PM Dung held a party in honour of Lao Prime Minister Buasone Bouphavan and his entourage, who are on an official visit to Vietnam./.
