Vietnam and Laos will plant an additional 258 border markers in 2011 in order to complete land border demarcation between the two countries in 2012.

The target was put forward at the third meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Joint Committee on Border Marker Planting, held in the central city of Da Nang from August 21-23.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ho Xuan Son, who is also Chair of the National Border Committee and Chair of the Vietnam-Laos Joint Committee on Border Marker Planting.

The Laos delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister, President of the Laos-Vietnam Joint Border Marker Planting Committee, Bounkeut Sangsomsak.

The two sides spoke highly of the efforts of the joint committee in planting more border markers between Laos and Vietnam .

Between February and August, 2010, the two sides defined 147 places for marker planting and planted 170 markers.

The two sides have planned to define 87 additional markers and plant 120 markers from now to the end of the year.

The chairmen of the joint committee will also exchange views on preparations for the 20 th annual meeting on border management between the two countries in December this year in Luang Prabang city of Laos./.
