Vietnam has become the largest provider of scholarships for Laos this year with the granting of 750 scholarships in total, according to the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports.

The scholarships were offered to people of all walks of life in Laos, the ministry has reported.

Besides, Vietnam has helped build a faculty of Vietnamese studies at the Laos National University at a cost of 40 billion VND to equip the scholarship recipients with Vietnamese before going to study in Vietnam.

The two governments have also resigned the scholarship agreement, prioritising the training of university and college lecturers.

Vietnam’s scholarships have significantly helped Laos develop human resources that meet its requirements for socio-economic development.

Laos received 1,378 scholarships from 23 countries in 2010, and 1,564 ones from 27 countries in 2011.-VNA
