Vietnam has entered its bid to host the Asian Games in 2019, according to the Vietnamese Olympic Committee's (VOC) vice chairman and general secretary Hoang Vinh Giang.

Hanoi has designated a 200ha area in Dong Anh district for developing an Asian Games sports complex and Olympic centre with an additional athletes' village planned for Long Bien district.

The capital already plays home to the gigantic My Dinh Sports Complex that includes sport venues constructed for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in 2003 and the Asian Indoor Games (AIG) in 2009.

An additional series of newly constructed sports centres in Hai Duong, Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc , Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Quang Ninh, Thai Nguyen and Hai Phong stand ready for hosting Asia 's largest sporting event.

" Vietnam will do its best in hosting the Asian Games for the first time. We expect to receive the final decision from the Olympic Council of Asia some time next year," said Giang.

VOC has proposed to include 28 sporting events during the Asian Games in 2019.

Vietnam's 260-member squad bagged a modest haul of one gold, 17 silver and 15 bronze medals at the Asian Games held in China's Guangzhou City last year./.
