Vietnamese and Japanese managers and scientists on June 4 discussed Japan’s smart transport system and how to apply the software in Vietnam at a seminar in Hanoi.

The event was co-organised by the National Centre for Technological Progress (Nacentech) under the Ministry of Science and Technology and Japan’s Sumitomo Electric Group.

Addressing the seminar, Tran Viet Thanh, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, pointed to Vietnam’s weak transport infrastructure and lack of efficient tools to manage the country’s complicated transport system.

How to improve the quality and safety of the country’s road network remains a pressing issue, he noted.

The Vietnamese Government and relevant ministries and branches have started to work on ways to apply the smart transport technology in Vietnam , he added.

According to Tran Xuan Hong, Nacentech Director, the smart transport software is used by many countries, contributing to improving the quality of entire transport networks.

The software system is a tool to connect those who participate in transport and managers while helping save time and spending as well as protecting the environment, he said.

At the seminar, participants touched upon Vietnam’s transport status and possibilities to apply the software in the country.

They agreed that the software will help monitor Vietnam’s transport system in a harmonious and sustainable manner as the number of motorbikes on the country’s roads continues to grow over the next two decades.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese institute and the Japanese group signed a Memorandum of Understanding on scientific and technological cooperation between the two sides.-VNA
