The UK has shared its experience in organising sports events to Vietnam, aiming to help the latter successfully host the 18th Asian Games (ASIAD) in 2019.

During a seminar in Hanoi on June 12, UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Stephen Green – The Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint said the 18th ASIAD will be a good chance for Vietnam to introduce its image to international friends.

To achieve this goal, Vietnam should early draw out a detailed organising plan in order to make the event successful, thus attracting tourists and boosting the country’s economic development, he noted.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Khanh Hai highly valued the experience sharing of UK experts and businesses to help Vietnam well organise such an international sports event.

What the UK experts shared during the seminar show the UK’s expertise in hosting international sports events as well as the Olympic London organisers’ willingness to give advice and support to Vietnam in designing plan for the 18th ASIAD, he said.

Hai revealed that Vietnam is in the first steps of the completion of a plan on building and upgrading infrastructure facilities in order to serve the games the best.

He also asked relevant agencies of both sides to jointly outline a specific cooperation programme, not only for the organisation of the 18th ASIAD in 2019 but also other international sports events.

The seminar, which is jointly held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Olympic Committee and the UK Embassy, aimed to further bilateral cooperation in sports and create favourable conditions for future cooperation programmes, contributing to increasing bilateral trade and investment between Vietnam and the UK.-VNA
