Vietnam displayed a disjointed performance and lost to the Philippines 1–0 in the Asian Football Confederation Cup at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on June 11 night.
Linsay Whaley shook off marker Nguyen Thi Hai Anh to score the only goal of the match in the 29th minute with a low shot inside the box past keeper Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy into the far corner.
Whaley's goal also led her team to a second win in a row and reclaim the top spot from Vietnam, who have now dropped to the second place with three points from the win over Cambodia in the opening match.
This is the first time in years that Vietnam have lost to the Philippines, which possessed some very promising players, at an international women's football event at all levels.
Vietnam's loss in the second Group A match, however, will not affect its chances of progressing into the semifinals because the country will only have to play Singapore, which was already eliminated after two losses, in its last group game.
Cambodia beat Singapore 2–1 in the previous match of the group to rank third in the group.
In Group B, Thailand overcame Malaysia 1–0 in their first match on June 10.-VNA
