Vietnam, Malaysia look to cement ties

During their meeting in Kuala Lumpur on June 6 on the occasion of Vice President Doan’s stay in Malaysia to attend the 23rd Global Summit of Women, the two sides expressed their delight at the developing friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

They said they believe that through practical joint activities in celebrating the 40th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties in 2013, the mutual understanding and trust between the two nations and peoples will be deepened, strongly promoting their ties in the future and the establishment of a strategic partnership.

Both sides underscored the significance of the maintenance of delegation exchanges and high-level meetings as well as people-to-people diplomacy between the two countries.

Accordingly, the Malaysian King said he will visit Vietnam soon.

The King affirmed that his country will create all possible conditions for the Vietnamese community to settle their lives in the country, while dealing with issues relating to Vietnamese fishermen and ships on the basis of humanitarian spirit and the friendship between the two countries.

Both Vice President Doan and the Malaysian King pledged to strengthen cooperation at regional and international forums, especially in the framework of ASEAN and the United Nations.

They agreed on the need to comply with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982 UNCLOS), strictly implement the Declaration on Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and build a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) at an early date, with a view to maintaining peace and stability in the East Sea and the region.

The same day, Vice President Doan met with Keosaichay Saynhaxon, the wife of Lao President Chumaly Saynhasone. They shared the pleasure at the signing of a cooperation agreement on women development between the Vietnam and Laos Women Unions for the 2012-2017 period.

They expressed their belief that the two associations will continue sharing experience in economic development, while working closely together to educate the younger generations of both countries to further the solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

Also on June 6, Vice President Doan visited the Sony Malaysia factory, where about 450 Vietnamese work.-VNA
