A delegation of the Foreign Ministry, headed by Permanent Deputy Minister Pham Binh Minh, paid a working visit to Mexico from May 7-8 under the political consultative mechanism between the two foreign ministries.
While in Mexico City , the Vietnamese delegation paid a courtesy visit to Vice Chairman of the Senate Arturo Nunez Jimenez and President of the Senate Committee for External Relations Carlos Jimenez Macias.
They held talks with a delegation from Mexican Foreign and Economics Ministries, headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Lourdes Aranda Bezauri.
The Mexican officials expressed admiration at Vietnam ’s past struggle for national independence and its achievements in national renewal process over the past 25 years. They reminisced about Mexican people’s solidarity towards Vietnam in the resistance war against the US and affirmed further support for boosting friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Mexico and Vietnam , particularly between the two legislative bodies.
At the political consultative conference between the two Foreign Ministries, the two sides reviewed friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Mexico over the past time and worked out measures to boost bilateral trade and economic ties.
In 2009, two-way trade hit over 700 million USD and it is expected to reach 1 billion USD this year.
The two sides agreed to coordinate in organising big anniversaries in each country, including the Vietnam Week in Mexico from May 25-29.
They also agreed to continue boost coordination and mutual support at international organisations and multilateral forums.
