An agreement to set up a deputy ministerial-level security dialogue mechanism between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Myanmar Ministry of Home Affairs was signed in Hanoi on November 19.

The document was the outcome of the first security dialogue at the deputy ministerial level between the two ministries.

Speaking at the event, Vietnam ’s Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General To Lam described the event as an important milestone in the cooperation between the two ministries and the realisation of the outcomes of the visit to Myanmar by Public Security Minister General Tran Dai Quang.

He affirmed through the security dialogue mechanism, leaders of the two ministries will meet each other in turns to share information on regional and international security issues of mutual concern every year.

They will discuss measures to cope with non-traditional challenges, especially in fighting terrorism, transnational and drug crimes.

These activities will help step up the implementation of the cooperation agreement between the two countries on fighting crimes, ensuring national security and maintaining social order.

For his part, Myanmar ’s Deputy Home Affairs Minister Brigadier General Kyaw Kyaw Tun spoke highly of the cooperation outcomes reached between the two ministries over the past time.

He said he believes that the dialogue will see good results, contributing to fostering the two countries’ friendship.

The same day, Minister of Public Security General Tran Dai Quang received Deputy Home Affairs Minister Brigadier General Kyaw Kyaw Tun.

According to Minister Quang, the two ministries have strengthened cooperation in the fight against transnational crimes, protecting security and social order, reaching good results.

The achievements reached during his visit to Myanmar and the first security dialogue at the deputy ministerial level between the two ministries are the vivid manifestation of bilateral friendship and cooperation, Quang affirmed.

Deputy Minister Kyaw Kyaw Tun expressed his hope that the two ministries’ cooperation will further develop, contributing to consolidating the friendly cooperation between Vietnam and Myanmar.-VNA
